Help your dog lose weight with Big Dog Pet Foods’ natural, raw meals that taste so good they won’t know they’re on a diet.

Raw food is a great option for managing your dog’s weight. More and more Aussie pet parents are turning to raw feeding as a natural and nutritious alternative to processed pet foods, for safe weight loss and maintenance. Many processed pet foods are high in carbohydrates, which contributes to many weight and health issues in Aussie pets. By feeding a diet closest to their natural, wild diet, you’re satisfying their biological needs so they can reach and maintain a healthy weight.
Big Dog recipes are made with high-quality, Aussie produce sourced from the human-supply chain to provide pets with fresh, raw meals that replicate their natural diet.
Our team, along with trusted veterinarians and canine nutritionists, has created a wealth of educational resources to help pet parents make informed choices about their pet’s diet and overall care.

Use the chart that veterinarians use to determine your pet’s body condition, and for fluffy dogs we have ‘the knuckle test’ method to findout if your pet is a healthy weight.

Dr Nicole Rous sees the impacts of unhealthy weight in her clinic. Weight can cause many serious health issues for our pets and Dr Nicole supports pet parents with her guide to weight management for pets.

Whether you’re just starting your raw feeding journey or looking to make the switch to a more natural diet, we’ve got all your questions covered.
We have two options for dogs requiring a low-fat diet to assist with weight loss. They are our Kangaroo recipe which sits at 5% fat and Wellbeing recipe which contains 7.5% fat. These two diets are our lowest-fat options and provide everything your dog needs, nutritionally, without the extra calories. To get the best results it’s important to also consider your dog’s daily physical exercise and treats in their diet.
Make sure you start by feeding them at their target weight. If that is a drastic goal, then slowly reduce their food intake over time to meet that goal.
