FAQs
Do dogs need probiotics?
Just as humans rely on probiotics for gut health, so do dogs. While dogs naturally produce some probiotics in their gut, some may need extra, especially if they are super active, old or have health issues.
Dog probiotics can also help keep the digestive system functioning properly and boost the immune system. It reduces gas, bloating and diarrhea. If you're considering giving your dog probiotics and wondering what the best probiotics for dogs in Australia are, check out Big Dog Pet Foods online.
What is the best probiotic to give a dog?
The best probiotic for dogs is high-strength and contains host-specific strains. Big Dog's Probiotic is a pet food supplier with products that meet these criteria. In addition to 20 billion good bacteria per 5g serve, our probiotic blend includes five digestive enzymes and a natural prebiotic, green banana powder. This combination improves the health of the entire digestive tract, making it an ideal probiotic for dogs.
Is it OK to give my dog probiotics daily?
Yes, you can give your dog probiotics daily. The recommended dose is ½ teaspoon for small dogs, ¾ teaspoon for medium dogs and one teaspoon for large dogs. You can also give it to cats at the small dog dose. Feed your pet our raw dog or cat food before giving them their probiotics for optimal results. Contact us for assistance if you’re not sure about the doses.
Do human probiotics work for dogs?
Human probiotics are not harmful to dogs but don't provide the same benefits as dog-specific probiotics. Probiotics for dogs contain bacteria similar to those found in human supplements but are combined with strains specific to dogs.
These bacteria help to support a healthy digestive system and they can also help to boost the immune system. As a result, dog probiotics are a more effective way to support your dog's health.
Are your probiotics micro-encapsulated?
Absolutely! Micro-encapsulation plays an important role in protecting probiotic bacteria from the degradation that the digestive system was designed to do. It ensures they can stay viable through to the colon and, most importantly, get absorbed and benefit the pet’s health the way they are intended.
