At Big Dog Pet Foods, we create raw pet food that mimics your dog’s ancestral diet. We do this with raw recipes containing fresh natural produce, keeping it simple and as natural as possible, with minimal processing and no artificial preservatives. Simply put, our raw pet food is minced up and frozen – but if you’re looking for more detail; we’re happy to share our process with you.
Manufacturing of Big Dog Raw Recipes
Produce arrives from approved suppliers at Big Dog HQ and undergoes a product integrity check (temperature, appearance and smell).
Our fresh produce is allocated into batches, carefully weighed following our healthy, species-appropriate recipes.
Each batch of raw pet food goes through our mincer twice. The first time the batch is minced, it will look something like this:

This minced-up-goodness is what goes into your pet’s patties, rolls and bites – it goes from raw ingredient through to ready for the freezer within 3 hours. 3 hours to produce an 800kg batch of dog food might sound fast, but that’s because of state of the art equipment and very limited processing to keep our product fresh.
Our pet food is stored in freezers and frozen quickly to ensure product integrity. There are quality inspection points in every part of the process, which are overseen by our QA team, including our finished product tested for final acceptance and release.
Big Dog raw food is distributed through our national cold chain under controlled temperatures to maintain freshness and integrity for your pet's health and happiness.
