Bone broth recipe for dogs
Bone broth is an excellent addition to a dog's diet as it offers digestive support, a boost for the immune system and can support joint health. Here's a simple bone broth recipe for dogs that you can make at home.
What you'll need

Equipment
- Slow cooker
- 1/2 cup measure
- Chux cloth
- Bowl
- Strainer
Ingredients
- 4 beef brisket soup bones
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 4 carrots
- 4 celery sticks
- Water
- 1/2 bunch parsley, mint and thyme (optional)
Method:
Step 1: Place beef bones, apple cider vinegar, celery, carrots and water to cover, into the slow cooker and cook for 24 hours.
Step 2: Add your parsley, mint & thyme, cook for another 20 mins.
Step 3: Grab a bowl and place a strainer lined with a chux cloth inside and strain your broth.
Step 4: Place in the fridge until cool and a layer of fat has set on the top.
Step 5: Remove fat and the broth is ready to serve. You can pour this over your dog's favourite Big Dog recipe.
Note: You can keep your bone broth for 2 weeks in the fridge, or freeze the broth in small ice cube trays and use when needed. You can also heat it in the microwave when it is at jelly consistency to make it runny and easy to pour.
Bone Broth serving suggestion:
Small dogs: 1 tablespoon
Medium dogs: 2 tablespoons
Large dogs: 3 tablespoons
Dan’s Tip: One last thing is don't forget you can add any other of your dogs favourite ingredients into the broth or foods with lots of nutritional benefits (like ginger). Keep and use any extra vegetables or meat that has fallen from the bones. Please make sure no bits of cooked bones have made their way into the mix and throw away the beef bones.
